If you notice these mysterious black dots in your kitchen, it’s important to understand what they signify
It’s never particularly enjoyable to notice things in our homes that seem to defy explanation. Personally, whenever I come across a new mark on the wall or catch a faint unfamiliar smell, my first thought is whether it’s going to worsen and, ultimately, how much it’s going to cost to fix.
It’s no surprise that strange marks or unexplained findings in the kitchen, of all places, can be alarming. After all, this is where we prepare food, and it’s one area in the home where we expect to have full control over everythig
One homeowner, however, found herself puzzled by the appearance of several black dots with no obvious explanation.
“Does anyone know what these spots could be?” she asked in the Facebook group ‘WeLoveMrsHinch’. “They started showing up on the kitchen tiles and this morning, I noticed some on the PC we keep in the kitchen.”
Fortunately, other Facebook users were quick to provide an answer, though it wasn’t the one she was likely hoping for.
“Take a closer look, you’ll probably find a spider,” one person commented. Another added, “It’s pretty common this time of year—spiders leaving droppings everywhere.”
According to the “Pest Guidance” website, spiders don’t leave solid droppings; instead, their waste is a thick liquid resembling dark ink stains, often found on walls and surfaces.
“Their droppings appear as splatters or drips in shades of black, brown, white, or grey,” the site explains. “The type or color of the waste depends on the species, but in most cases, you’ll notice dark splats or drips. These are a mix of food waste and other byproducts from the spider’s body.”
I must admit, I had no idea about spider droppings. Did you? Let us know in the comments.
