Liberal Supreme Court Justice Lands in Deep Trouble – She Could Get the Ultimate Punishment
For every Americans, it is important for the members of the judicial system to be impartial and not influenced by outside money sources. This is especially true for judges who make rulings that affect the lives of not only individuals but often large portions of society.
When a judge steps outside the circle of impartiality there must be accountability. Republicans in this Midwest state believe an elected judge at the highest level may have stepped far outside that circle and the problem needs to be resolved.
From the Daily Caller:
Wisconsin’s Republican State Assembly Speaker announced Wednesday that he has created a panel to review the criteria for impeachment of a liberal state Supreme Court justice.
The panel is looking into Justice Janet Protasiewicz over comments she made about the state’s Republican redistricting maps and the money she received from the Democratic Party, the outlet reported.
Republicans are taking this seriously and Assembly Speaker Robin Vos has chosen three former Wisconsin Supreme Court justices for the panel. He has refused to name the former justices until after the panel completes its review.
What has Republicans riled up is comments made by Protasiewicz during the election campaign where she stated current election maps being “rigged” and she received nearly $10 million from the Wisconsin Democratic Party. The campaign was a hotly contested battle
Protasiewicz’s win in the May election was a power shift politically. For the first time in 15 years, liberals hold the majority on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Liberal justices didn’t waste time and reportedly made quick changes within the court. This caused Chief Justice Annette Ziegler to accuse the court’s liberal majority of staging a “coup.”
How this majority will affect goals of the Republican-dominated Legislature to rework election maps remains to be seen. The process they set up is at odds with political opponents and Democrat Gov. Tony Evers said he would veto a proposed bill to solidify the Republican mapping plan. Republicans don’t want Protasiewicz involved in any legal decisions on the bill or its mapping results.
“I’m still optimistic the maps we have are totally legit,” Vos told WISN 12 News. “I think Justice Protasiewicz should recuse herself because she has biased herself in the process.”
How this plays out could create an explosive campaign cycle next year when the election maps are expected to be finalized. No date was announced on when Vos expects the impeachment review to be completed.
